Our Neonatology Department successfully treated a critically ill preterm baby

Recently, after more than 70 days and nights, Liaocheng City Hospital Neonatology Department carefully treated a premature baby born only 31 + 4 weeks weighing 1220g little star (a pseudonym) recovered from the hospital.
After the birth of the little star, due to the lack of development, a series of serious complications such as asphyxia, neonatal shock, respiratory failure and so on, which always endangered the life of the child, after a series of rescue and treatment such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, replacement of bovine pulmonary surfactant, expansion of volume, correction of acid, improvement of circulation, prevention and treatment of infections, correction of hypoglycemia, intravenous nutrition and other rescue and treatment, the child's condition was effectively controlled.

During the treatment period, the medical and nursing team of neonatology worked together to overcome each and every difficulty, closely observed the changes in the condition of the child, always pay attention to the signs of the child, and constantly optimize the treatment plan, precise treatment, fine care, multidisciplinary collaboration, in the neonatology department of all the medical and nursing more than 70 conscientious, hard-working, go all out to guard the child has passed through the respiratory, circulatory, feeding, infections, and many other life hurdles! The little star was cured of encephalitis, his anemia improved, edema subsided, liver and kidney function and hearing were normal, and he could breastfeed 60-70ml/times, and his weight increased to 3.5kg, which made the once frail baby stronger day by day, which made the doctors and nurses of the neonatology department feel relieved and the family members were especially grateful. During the follow-up visit, it was learned that the little star was now 4 months of corrected gestational age, with a steady catch-up growth in weight, large and fine motor movements were also gradually followed up, and the visual acuity was improved in the review, and there was no abnormality in the hearing and cranial magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI). In the neonatal typical case sharing competition held by the Neonatology Physicians Branch of Shandong Provincial Physicians Association, this case was selected to enter the finals and achieved good results, and the treatment effect was unanimously praised by the provincial experts, which demonstrated the level of our neonatology department's treatment level of acute and critical preterm infants.


On August 21st, the parents of Little Star sent a banner and flowers to the medical staff of NICU to express their gratitude, thanks and appreciation. In recent years, the number of cases of ultra-premature babies admitted to the NICU has been increasing year by year, which has been unanimously recognized by peers and families. In the future, the medical team of NICU will continue to make every effort to support the cradle of life for newborn babies with exquisite medical technology and high quality service.


The Neonatology Department of Liaocheng Second People's Hospital was formally established in December 2007, which is the earliest independent department specializing in treating infants within 28 days of birth in the northwestern part of Shandong Province. The neonatal ward has 30 open beds, 1 chief physician, 1 deputy chief physician, 4 attending physicians, 4 residents, 23 nurses, 1 head nurse, 1 deputy head nurse and 21 professional nurses.

   The department has concentrated many advanced medical facilities and equipments, reasonable layout of ward environment, dynamic management of beds, and has successfully carried out various neonatal treatment techniques, such as: neonatal resuscitation techniques, non-invasive ventilator, normal frequency and high frequency shock ventilation ventilator application to rescue all kinds of critical respiratory failure of children; tracheal intubation or LISA, MIST injection of lung surface active substances for the treatment of pulmonary hyaluronidosis in newborn infants, PS Treatment of neonatal meconium aspiration syndrome; comprehensive treatment of preterm infants, low birth weight infants, very low birth weight infants, ultra-low birth weight infants; neonatal sepsis cluster treatment, hemolytic disease of newborn hemolytic blood exchange therapy, endoscopic techniques such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy and gastroscopy, early intervention of the nervous system in preterm infants, PICC and umbilical vein catheterization, neonatal daytime phototherapy wards, and monitoring of neonatal cerebral function techniques, Neonatal touch and kangaroo care techniques; in addition, the application of colostrum oral application (OIT) in preterm infants, neonatal developmental care, neonatal transfer, neonatal NICU+transportation network+follow-up intervention platforms have also made significant progress.

    The medical and nursing team of the department has high professional technology, strong emergency response ability and tacit cooperation. In addition to undertaking the treatment of various neonatal diseases in our hospital, postoperative monitoring of children in the perioperative period of pediatric surgery, and life support, the department also undertakes the transfer and treatment of critically ill newborns in Linqing, Linci, Qinghe, Xazin and other neighboring areas, which provides a reliable guarantee of neonatal treatment and recovery from diseases, and has been unanimously praised and recognized by family members of the clinical departments of our hospital and the surrounding areas. It has been well received by our hospital and the neighboring clinical departments and recognized by the families.
