The ESPRIT study is an important project of the National 13th Five-Year Plan, led by Professor Jing Li's team at Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, in collaboration with 116 hospitals in China, and is an open-label, randomised, multi-centre study with blinded endpoints, which enrolled a wide range of patients with cardiovascular risk hypertension. This was an open-label, randomised controlled multicentre study with blinded endpoints. The ESPRIT study included a wide range of hypertensive patients at high cardiovascular risk and used standard in-office blood pressure measurements, demonstrating that the goal of blood pressure reduction should be a systolic blood pressure of less than 120 mmHg for patients at high cardiovascular risk, irrespective of a history of diabetes or stroke. At the same time, however, the study also emphasised that this should not be interpretedto mean that all patients should have their systolic blood pressure reduced to this level, and that if patients cannot tolerate a systolic blood pressure below 120 mmHg, their blood pressure should be maintained at the lowest level they can tolerate. This finding marks a new breakthrough in the field of cardiovascular hypertension research in the Department of Cardiology.
Director Zhang Yun of the Department of Cardiology of Liaocheng City Second People's Hospital, as the sub-centre subject leader of the study, led our research team Zuo Zhaokai, Wang Zhimin, Shen Junrong, and Wang Enfang to carry out the research work with a rigorous and serious attitude, and the team of Director Zhang Yun shared their experience as a representative many times in the stage summary meeting of the study and received high praise.
The study was initiated from September 2018 to June 2023 for successful completion.During this period, 3286 face-to-face visits, 1531 blood tests and examinations, 459 central blood samples were taken, 3286 medicines were dispensed and 3286 questionnaires were completed. The centre's tasks were successfully and efficiently completed, and were highly recognised by the General Research Group.
By participating in the ESPRIT study, the research team of Liaocheng Second People's Hospital not only improved their professionalism, but also achieved significant improvement in their research ability. This result not only provides new ideas for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, but also lays a solid foundation for the future scientific research of the hospital.
