China Acute Myocardial Infarction Treatment Programme" Kick-off Meeting Held in Our Hospital

"China STEMI Care Project" (China STEMI Care Project) is a national healthcare quality improvement research project, which was established by the Chinese Physicians Association and entrusted to Professor Huo Yong of Peking University First Hospital as the executive chairman of the project in each province, for the purpose of implementing the relevant requirements of the Circular on Enhancing the Medical Rescue and Treatment Capability of Acute Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases (Medical Letter of the Office of the National Health and Family Planning Commission [2015] No. 189). Under the guidance of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), the National Healthcare Quality Improvement Research Project (NHQIRP) was established by the China Medical Association (CMA) and entrusted to Professor Huo Yong of Peking University First Hospital (PUFH), with the implementation by the executive chairmen of the project in each province.

This project will establish a regional collaborative acute myocardial infarction treatment network in 15 provinces and cities in China, and continuously collect clinical data related to STEMI patients treated by the network units. Through the cycle of data collection, evaluation of key quality indicators, quality feedback, training, continuous improvement, and re-evaluation, the project will improve the early reperfusion rate of acute myocardial infarction, increase the efficiency of acute myocardial infarction treatment, raise public awareness of acute myocardial infarction treatment, and reduce the overall cost of medical care, as well as initially establish a system of evaluation and quality feedback on the efficiency of emergency transport, the level of treatment at the networked hospitals, and the percentage of reperfusion treatment, thereby improving the efficiency of emergency transport, as well as the quality and quality feedback system. It will also establish a preliminary assessment and quality feedback system for the efficiency of EMS transfer and the proportion of reperfusion therapy in network hospitals, so as to improve the overall level of acute myocardial infarction in China.

On 24th November, Ms Xu Mengyao, the head of Shandong STEMI project, came to our hospital to hold the launching meeting of the project in spite of the wind and snow. Vice President Liu Yuesen presided over the meeting, which was attended by the chiefs and deputy chiefs of cardiology departments, Director of Emergency Medicine Department Jia Shufan, Head of Chest Pain Office Xiong Pan, and more than 30 related members. Ms Xu Mengyao gave a detailed introduction on the background, significance, process, assessment indicators and support of the project, and answered all the questions actively discussed by the participants on the spot.

After the kick-off meeting, President Liu organised the relevant participants to continue to discuss the specific issues that need to be implemented in the project, stressing that the time is tight and the task is heavy, and that it is necessary to do a good job of coordinating the planning from that day onwards, clarifying the process, dividing the work into specific tasks and assigning responsibilities to people, so as to effectively guarantee that the project is put into place and strive to be the first-class in the province.

Successful implementation of the project will increase the proportion of patients with early reperfusion therapy, shorten the total ischaemic time of patients, improve the long-term prognosis of patients, standardise the process of acute myocardial infarction treatment in our hospital, will greatly enhance the level of acute myocardial infarction treatment in our hospital, with good social and economic benefits, and plays a significant role in promoting the certification of the Chest Pain Office of our hospital.
