The Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine of Liaocheng City Second People's Hospital was established in 1956, and after 68 years of development, it has developed into a key specialty in Shandong Province and a key specialty unit in Liaocheng City, which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, health care and rehabilitation.
In recent years, the Department of Pediatrics has been developing and expanding. There are 4 wards of General Pediatrics, 1 ward of Neonatology, 1 ward of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 2 wards of Children's Rehabilitation, and 1 outpatient specialized department of Children's Health. At present, the Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine has a total of 271 open beds and 186 doctors and nurses, which is divided into 13 sub-specialties: pediatric respiratory, digestive, neurological, cardiovascular, renal rheumatology and immunity, hematology, endocrinology, neonatology, pediatrics, pediatrics, pediatric psychiatry, children's health care, children's rehabilitation, and children's combined traditional Chinese and western medicine.
In 2012, it was successively named Liaocheng City Municipal Key Specialty and the first batch of designated institutions for rehabilitation and relief of children with physical disabilities in Shandong Province; in 2017, it was named Liaocheng City Designated Institution for Congenital Heart Disease Screening and Rescue; and in 2018, it was named Shandong Province Designated Hospital for Children's Leukemia, and in the same year, the Pediatric Respiratory Laboratory was named Municipal Key Laboratory and the Neonatology Department was named Municipal Critical Neonate Rescue and Treatment Center; In 2020, it was named as the designated organization for rehabilitation assistance for children with intellectual disabilities in Shandong Province; in 2023, it was named as the TCM intervention station for scoliosis among adolescents in Shandong Province; and in 2023, it was named as the key specialty unit in Shandong Province.
The Pediatric Internal Medicine Department has an average annual outpatient volume of 128,000 visits and an annual discharge volume of 10,300 visits. The service scope covers Shandong (Liaocheng, Dezhou), Hebei (Xingtai, Handan, Hengshui) and other neighboring areas, with a service radius of 100 kilometers and a radiated population of 10 million, and the ratio of patients treated outside of the province is 35%, which enjoys high reputation in the neighboring areas.
The Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine has successfully built a hospital-centered medical association of county-level hospitals, and has signed contracts with the neighboring Linqing People's Hospital, Qinghe People's Hospital, Qinghe Central Hospital, Qinghe Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Linci People's Hospital, and the Second People's Hospital of Linci County, which has improved the level of treatment for critically and emergently ill children within the region by means of thematic forums, case discussions, and online and offline consultations.
At present, Pediatrics is a member of Shandong Province Clinical Key Specialty Pediatrics Union, Shandong Province Neonatal Specialty Union, Shandong Province Neonatal Nursing Specialty Union, Shandong Provincial Hospital Pediatrics, Pediatric Respiratory, Pediatric Acute and Critical Care, Renal Hematology and Endocrinology Specialty Union, Shandong University Qilu Hospital Pediatrics Neurological Critical Illnesses, Pediatric Endocrinology and Growth and Development Specialty Union, Pediatric Epilepsy Health Management Consortium member unit, Qilu Hospital Pediatric Neurology and Endocrinology and Growth and Development Specialty Union. It is a member unit of the Health Management Consortium, a member unit of Qilu Children's Hospital Group's alliance for the rescue and treatment of critically ill children and children's rehabilitation, one of the first batch of designated institutions for rehabilitation and relief of children with physical disabilities in Shandong Province, and one of the designated institutions for rehabilitation and relief of children with intellectual disabilities in Shandong Province.
