   The Department of Nephrology of Liaocheng City Second People's Hospital is a clinical department focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical diseases in nephrology, founded in 1996, now located on the fourth floor of the Internal Medicine Complex Building, with 34 beds, one of the most common clinical departments for difficult and complicated diseases, and is a professional treatment centre for renal diseases in the eight counties and cities around Linqing. There are 41 medical and nursing staff in the department, with a total of 11 physicians, all of whom are master's degree holders. Among them, there are 1 chief physician, 2 deputy chief physicians, 7 attending physicians and 1 resident physician; 13 nursing staff in the ward and 17 nursing staff in the haemodialysis room. The department has a group of excellent professional and technical personnel, which has laid a solid foundation for the development of the department. Cheng Lixin, Director of Nephrology, Zhang Hongjiao, Head Nurse of Ward, Zhu Weiqiu, Head Nurse of Haemodialysis Unit, the annual outpatient volume of the department reaches more than 10,000 times, and 1,000 times of all kinds of patients are admitted every year. More than 25,000 haemodialysis treatments are performed, and the department is well known in the society.
   The department treats all kinds of kidney diseases, such as nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, hypertensive nephropathy, myeloma kidney damage, gouty kidneys, hepatitis B virus-related nephritis, renal insufficiency, uremia, urinary tract infections, and other common diseases, and also accepts and treats rare diseases, such as ANCA vasculitis, thrombotic microangiopathy, and amyloidosis, etc. The department has 37 hemodialysis machines. It has 37 haemodialysis machines, and has accumulated rich experience in the treatment of uremic patients over the years. In order to improve the quality of survival of uremic patients, it carries out combined artificial kidney, haemofiltration, haemoperfusion, femoral vein cannulation for haemodialysis, internal jugular vein cannulation for haemodialysis, and arterio-venous endovascular fistula for haemodialysis. We also carry out renal puncture biopsy, and have successfully diagnosed and rescued many patients with multiple organ failure, persistent heart failure, severe liver failure, poisoning and refractory immune diseases.
   The department has obtained the national invention patent ‘Chinese medicinal preparation for preventing and controlling medical cortisolism’, the third prize of Liaocheng City Scientific and Technological Progress ‘Clinical research on haemoperfusion for rescuing acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning combined with overdose of atropine’, the third prize of Science and Technology Progress of Liaocheng No.2 Hospital ‘Haemodialysis for uremia’, and has published dozens of theses.
   Many doctors of the department have gone to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University Hospital, General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army and Zhongshan Hospital in Guangzhou for further training and study, so as to introduce advanced treatments at home and abroad and provide better services for patients.
